About us

The aim of our publishing house, which celebrates its twentieth anniversary in 2008, has always been to satisfy the needs and demands of our readers and at the same time ensure that we continue to meet the very high standards we have set for ourselves over the past two decades of publishing fiction, light reading, popular non-fiction, school text books and children’s books. Most of our children’s books have been appreciated professionally; and another award has been added to our line of prizes as our title The Golden Haired Girl, illustrated by the IBBY-award winning Katalin Szegedi, won the Beautiful Hungarian Book award.

In 2008 we shall continue our Beatrix Potter series; additionally we also intend to conquer the toy market with irresistible plush puppets of Peter Rabbit and his friends.

Our Bestseller Series incorporates international blockbusters from popular authors including Jeffrey Archer, John J. Nance, Greg Iles, Douglas Preston, Lincoln Child, Allan Folsom and Lee Child. We are proud to have published the 100th book of the series last year. (pp.4-5)

The Romantic Novels Series offers novels rich with passion and by some of the most successful and widely-read American authors. Our series shall see the addition of new authors this year as well. Fans of Catherine Anderson, Mary Jo Putney, Erich Segal, Judith McNaught and Nicholas Sparks are now being introduced to works by Brenda Joyce and Elizabeth Hoyt. (pp.20-21)

Each volume of our Special Non-Fiction Series focuses on a topic as yet unexplored by Hungarian scientific literature.  Besides Joan Oates’ Babylon and John Man’s The Great Wall we wish to draw our readers’ attention to the works of a Russian ex-diplomat, Vladimir Fédorovski, now living in France. His books offer a glimpse into the historical and social background of the past century. (pp.6-7)

The undoubted stars in our Books for Children series are Pettson and Findus, written and illustrated by Sven Nordqvist. These charming tales of misadventure have proved extremely popular with Hungarian children and their parents. We are also continuing our Beatrix Potter series, complete with the sweet plush figures of Peter Rabbit and his friends. (pp.8-19)

The Hungarian Authors Series contains educational non-fiction materials on various topics by Hungarian authors. Gábor Várkonyi’s Festivities and Weekdays: Culture and Mentality in Hungary during the Turkish Rule shall be published as part of the Renaissance Year. (p.7)

In the Ancient Classics Series takes those with an interest in the classics on a guided tour of some of the greatest works from ancient Greece and Rome that have so far included the writings of Seneca and Apuleius.

The volumes of the Helen Exley series of our Gift Books make wonderful presents for our loved ones. Their wonderful quotations and illustrations have made them extremely popular, and this year shall see three new titles added to the series. Our collections of poetry contain timeless thoughts; and the long-awaited reprint of Paul Géraldy’s collection of quotations shall appear in an elegant, new form.

Our Beautiful Poems Wrapped In Beautiful Cloaks series presents a fine selection of poetry by great poets from all over the world, edited by Ferenc Baranyi.

Our It’s Been A Hit Series re-introduces international works that have been out of print for a considerable time despite the local popularity achieved by their authors and these include classics by the likes of Arthur Miller, Stefan Zweig, Alberto Moravia and the Nobel-prize winner Ivo Andrić.

We are also publishing single titles that are not part of any of the aforementioned series, and in 2008 we are offering several outstanding literary gems to our readers: for instance, The Legends of the Samurai presents translated stories from the Middle Ages to the early 18th century. Feather in the Storm is the moving memoirs of a little girl growing up in China under Mao’s rule. The Devil and his Disciple describes the adventurous story of G. B. Shaw and his Hungarian producer. Probably the most heartbreaking and surprising love affair of the Stasi past shall be unveiled in the title 12 Means I Love You, the memoirs of a Stasi officer and a dissident woman. Additionally, the collection of Welsh legends entitled Mabinogion shall be published for the first time in Hungarian.
